You might probably hear about the movie "Amelie" (original title: Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
It is a romantic comedy film about a girl named Amelie, and her way to discover what is love. I want to give information about this film.
I chose this topic because I love this movie and I can watch it over and over again. I personally think that the topic of the film is really interesting but we can all find something in it. We sometimes lose our way and try new things to find what we're looking for. We all see the characters of the movie in our everyday life.

Amelie has an interesting family. Her parents raises her believing that she has a heart disease. They do not let her contact with other children, so they home school her. In those times, Amelie sets a really interesting fantasy world to be able to bear all the weird things around her. After her mother's death, she leaves home and starts a job as a waitress in Café des 2 Moulins. Amelie loves to plan a lot of things that affect thousands of lives. She tries to encourage people to follow their dreams. When she starts accompanying Mr. Dufayel, he starts to encourage Amelie to follow the young man who collects discarded photographes. After interesting series of events, they start a really cute relationsip with this mysterious man.

"So, little Amelie, your bones aren't made of glass. You can take life's knocks. If you let this chance go by, eventually your heart will become as dry and brittle as my skeleton. So... Go and get him, for pete's sake!" (Raymond Dufayel)

After a brief display of Amelie, I want to share information about this interesting movie.

Soundtracks of Amelie are really attracting. Many people know about them although they haven't seen the movie yet. Music composer of the film is Yann Tiersen, a French musician. He gained a global recognition thanks to Amelie.

  • The cafe where Amelie works really exists in Paris. Its name is Les Deux Moulins.

  • Audrey Tauto has played Amelie's character. She is a French actress. She achieved an international fame thanks to this role.
  • Amelie's mother dies when a woman jumps from a building and lands on the mother.

Rewrite of The Reflection Task 1B

Hello, today I will introduce you to a singer and a pianist whose voice I've fallen in love. Her name is Dominique Dillon de Byington, but she uses just "Dillon" as her stage name. She was born in 1988, Sao Paolo, Brazil but she has been living in Germany since she was 5 years old.

She describes her family as "Brazilian Brazilian" although her great great ancestors came from England and Ireland, that's why she has a long British surname. She lives in Germany but she writes in English. That's because she went to a British college after she was 11. She learned everything from biology to algebra in English.

She began making music when she was still in her teens.  She started to be recognized when she posted her homemade performances on YouTube. For her debut album, she worked with a Turkish guy, Tamer Fahri Özgönenc. Finally, "This Silence Kills" was released in November 2011.

I discovered her while I was listening to different song recommends on Youtube coming across with her "Thirteen Thirtyfive".

As her name, her voice is unique. You cannot focus on lyrics while you listen to her. You are just possessed by her enchanting  voice. Besides her voice, lyrics of her songs also make you feel really complicated. While you smile, you can also feel broken-hearted.

  "This must end here
Before I lose my voice over you.

This must end here
Before I lose myself in you."

(Dillon - The Undying Need To Scream)

Video Task

Christmas Icon Reform (click to open)

This video is about different types of Christmas Icons from different places and opinions about how they affect these societies.

Self-Evaluation:

I chose this video because it makes me smile and also think. It is a really different perspective and one cannot see the success of countries from this way. Culture has a really big impact on socities and I think it can also affect countries' destinies.

In this task, I think choosing a video is the hardest thing. When you finally choose something, everything seems easy. The experience of trying to prepare questions feels like a real teacher. It's a different and enjoyable task. :)

Questions:

Is there any compound-complex sentence in this video?

Give an example of an interrogative sentence from the video.

Vocabulary:

intact:

jovial:

comes round:

Open-ended questions:

Do you think a Christmas Icon reform can change the succes of the U.S.?

Is there any similar icons in your culture?

Reflection Task 3

Jon Snow is the son of Eddard Stark but his mother's identity is a specuation. He is raised with his half-siblings. Although he knows that he's not going to seem as a real Stark, he always behaves like Starks. Besides his behaviours, he also looks like Starks. Arya (his little sister) really resembles him. He loves his siblings and he regards his family as the most important thing in the world.

When he grows up, he joins the Night's Watch to earn his own honor with this hard duty. At first Jon is really quite in this duty. After he fights with somebody, steward of the Night's Watch warns him and he fixes his behaviours. Then, he becomes a leader naturally. He protects Samwell from bullying.

I chose him as the man of the year because no matter what he has been through, he always tries to be nice. He puts people's lives and values first. He does not accept what he's been labeled and tries really hard to change it. He believes that there is always hope. He believes that everyone deserves a chance. He cannot tolerate injustice like his father. Even though he is not a true-born (because of his mother), I think he is the most real Stark.

Reflection Task 2B

This is a video about the complication of a relationship between a man and a woman. It's actually about the complication nature of the woman behaviours. A woman complains about something whose resolution is obvious. When the man tries to offer a solution, she goes crazy. She ignores the man's offer but continues to complain about it.

I chose this video because we all see those types of arguments in our everyday lives.
Video maker points out a comman scene from a modern life relationship. Men and women have really different types of needs, behaviours and perspectives. Although they know all those differences, they can not be without each other.

I think men's minds tend to offer certain solutions to situations, whereas women make situations more complicated trying to think about all the aspects of them. In this video, woman says lots of problems related to the nail on her head. The solution is easy but it's not what she wants. She wants to be listened, to be cared. She wants to know that he will always be there when she needs him. However, man does not understand why she does it. He cannot make sense but he tries to keep calm. I think we need to try to look from each other's perpectives to be able to solve problems. We need to tolerate something even if they are not logical. This video makes me think about these things.
